Why DeSo is Perfectly Positioned to Bring the Blockchain to the No-code Industry

BY Dennis Lewis  |  January 16, 2022

For many, blockchain technology is hard to understand and even harder to implement into your business processes. Not only are qualified developers hard to find, expensive and often over-worked, but high transaction costs, gas fees and sky-high data storage costs make many, if not all, applications impossible to build on traditional blockchains. We believe that DeSo is perfectly positioned to turn these trends upside down.

The DeSo social blockchain platform brings four game-changing advantages that users and developers around the world can leverage:

  • Built-in social engagement functionality
  • Low transaction and data storage costs
  • Powerful social NFT functionality
  • Fully functional developer API

In this article we will explore the importance of each of these advantages and then explain how we are currently incorporating them into the DeSo NoCode Institute's technological offering.

Social Engagement Functionality

Obviously DeSo carries social in its name and DNA. Social media is an application that everyone understands which makes it an excellent driver of mass adoption. DeSo's social blockchain has been built from the ground up with these considerations in mind.

Social functionality like conversations, likes and follows are also critical components of all modern e-commerce solutions. This means that no-code e-commerce solutions built on top of the DeSo platform can automatically leverage viral, social functions like reposting, sharing and liking.

Almost any business model can be improved by incorporating user engagement functions. However, building these functions from scratch is not simple. Furthermore, most platforms like Facebook and Twitter do not support external embedding of their feeds in third party sites.

DeSo, however, is built from the ground up to support a worldwide decentralized social web3 experience. Users can use their profiles on any number of sites, each of which can offer unique experiences and business models.

We believe that this ability to embed social engagement inside many types of applications represents an immense opportunity for the DeSo platform. After all, the more it is used the better its chances of becoming a top-tier blockchain platform.

Transaction and Data Storage Costs

The high costs of committing transactions, minting NFTs and deploying smart contracts are hindering the adoption of blockchain technology. Depending on the moment, just minting a single NFT on the Ethereum blockchain can cost hundreds of dollars.

Similarly, in a recent [article](https://www.deso.org/blog/web-3-will-not-be-built-on-smart-contracts) the DeSo team explains how data storage costs on traditional blockchains make many applications impossible to deploy. For example, the cost of storing just 1 Gb of data on the Ethereum blockchain is currently almost $400 million USD! On the DeSo blockchain this cost is approximately $80 USD.

These exorbitant costs discourage innovators from taking the risk of incorporating the blockchain into their applications. Most blockchains are simply not designed to be able to efficiently handle user-generated data. In fact, any application that needs to store information about each user on the blockchain is practically impossible to scale on any blockchain other than DeSo.

Not only does the DeSo blockchain store and index a significant amount of user state information, but applications can easily store all sorts of structured and unstructured information inside DeSo posts and NFTs.

Developer APIs

Let's face it. Most real world developers are focused on solving specific user problems and are not interested in steep learning curves with limited assurance of return on investment. They simply can’t afford to dedicate large percentages of their time and resources to learning new technologies.

APIs are the arteries and veins of modern systems. DeSo has included APIs to make DeSo blockchain technology easy to learn and integrate. DeSo’s RESTful API services are designed for use with both traditional web applications as well as phone or tablet based app clients.

DeSo's social blockchain platform is perfectly positioned to expand blockchain access to the no-code industry thanks to its native APIs. These are easily incorporated into new and existing application workflows.

DeSo is the first major blockchain solution that exposes a fully functional, standard API that can be leveraged with little or no prior experience. This allows the platform to connect seamlessly with third party applications.

The DeSo NoCode Institute Solution

Here at the DeSo NoCode Institute we believe that by combining the amazing DeSo technology with Bubble's cutting edge no-code solution we can empower a whole new generation of cryptopreneurs.

We’ve already built a fully functional DeSo integration plugin between DeSo and Bubble that encapsulates the most important DeSo API calls. These are the base level building blocks of our integration solution.

However, this alone is not enough to jumpstart most application projects. That's why we’ve built Bubble workflows that allow us to:

  • Sign and submit transactions to the blockchain.
  • Create DeSo NFTs including premium content and additional embedded data
  • Create posts, comments, reposts, likes and follows
  • Send diamonds
  • Send user messages
  • User on-boarding, confirmation and wallet creation

Finally, we've built reusable user interface elements that allow us to quickly and easily deploy all these types of functionalities in new Bubble applications. Some of these template functionalities are:

  • User on-boarding and logins
  • User profile pages
  • NFT visualization
  • Social feeds and posting
  • NFT e-commerce store
  • Backend application admin console

We are convinced that DeSo and Bubble are 2 great technologies that go great together and that our DeSo Bubble templates and plugins provide aspiring cryptopreneurs the tools they need to build the next generation of amazing DeSo applications.
